Lets get straight to the point. The outer course of bricks or masonry that forms your cavity wall construction is not watertight! The recent bad weather we’ve experienced may result in the appearance of damp patches where they never existed before. The high amount of rainfall, coupled with driving winds pushes the rain and moisture through the outer skin where it gets soaked up by cavity wall insulation. The moisture held in the cavity wall insulation will gradually transfer to the inner course, and in turn permeate the plaster coat, paint or wallpaper.
These damp patches may appear as shadows or cause paint to blister and deteriorate. Re-decorating is a chore and a quick fix but it’s never a cure for damp!
If you think that your home or property has been affected by the recent weather, you can see new damp patches or you think your cavity wall insulation is waterlogged, please get in touch.
